Description of the 100 series induction sensors

The new 100 Series Phoenix Induction Sensors eliminate the decades-old artificial division of MT spectrum into Audio-Frequency MT ( 10 kHz to approx. 10 Hz) and MT (approx. 100 Hz to 5 K sec+).

Now, as long desired by users, the 100 series sensors acquire the entire spectrum of interest in a single recording.

Introducing the new 100 Series Induction Sensors , Audio-Magnetotellurics and Magnetotellurics signals are finally unified within one simultaneous recording.

The advantages are so compelling that the 100 series sensors are very rapidly displacing the older separate AMT and MT sensors, and becoming the solution of choice.

We've been using the MTU-5A along with the new broadband inductive coils MTC-150 since December 2016. These coils have proved their high efficiency during field works. The following features are greatly appreciated during our operations :

The MTC-150 and MTC-180 have a flat response across their bandwidth. The corner frequency of the 150 is at 0.03 Hz while the 180 has a corner frequency of 0.05 Hz.

With chopper being ON during all acquisition, the MTC-100 sensors are an unprecedented technological achievement that will soon be the new standard.

The responses are optimized for users that care to achieve outstanding low frequencies, deeper response without compromising their near surface data. Continuously from 10,000 Hz to 50,000 seconds without interruption, the MTC-150 can be used for any Magnetotellurics applications.

An overall better response than dedicated sensors

A broadband optimized response for the Geophysicist. When it comes to data quality at bandwidth of economic interest (10.000 Hz to > 100 seconds), the MTC-150 has outstanding performances that competes with any other dedicated induction sensors.

The MTC-150 is almost as good as a dedicated AMT sensor in the very high frequency region of the AMT band. It is a better sensor for the mid to low band of AMT.

The Phoenix Geophysics coil, model MTC-150 is a very reliable, stable, broad-band magnetotelluric sensor. Excellent signal to noise response over a range of 10,000 Hz to as low as 0.0001 Hz. The coils have tough waterproof connector hardware and the cases are extremely robust. An outstanding effective temperature range and a very flat calibration curve make the MTC-150 very reliable. If you collect MT data where it is dusty, muddy, wet, cold, dry, or hot you will be well served by these nicely engineered coils

Weight and Dimensions

At only 6.6 KG for the MTC-150 and 4.4 KG for the MTC-180, the MTC-100 series is the lighter simultaneous broadband family of sensors. It is even lighter than standards dedicated MT sensors.

The MTC-150 is 144 cm long while the MTC-180 is 86 cm long. Both have 7 cm diameter. The MTC-180 being much shorter, it is the perfect vertical sensor companion of the MTC-150 .
